Ten budding Cub sailors hit the water this evening at Fishmoor Reservoir in Blackburn and had a two-hour sailing taster session for their Stage One Sailing Badge. The Cubs all said they had great fun on their catamaran-like "fun boats", which provided the stability for them to pick up some speed and gain confidence without capsizing. Eden, our Young Leader, and Cub Scout Matilda went one step further and took out a Pico sailing dinghy, which was very impressive considering the wind speeds that evening! A big thank-you to Ray, Tom, John and all the other Splashu volunteers for making this special experience for our Cubs!

ASJ Scouts love a challenge and that's what they got, setting up camp in the relentless rain! Thankfully it brightened up on Saturday evening and despite the weather our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts had a fantastic time playing, canoeing, shooting, making model boats and orienteering! There is a proposal to develop a new community facility at King George’s playing field Adlington. It will consist of new changing facilities for users of the football pitches, a community building with communal entry area and kitchens plus a large hall. Anderton Scout Group, Brownies and Adlington Ranger Guides along with Adlington Junior Football Club, as potential users, have been afforded the opportunity to make comment about the proposal. There is also a unique opportunity for the proposal to be a community led initiative, whereby you as the community are given the opportunity to comment on the need for such a facility and also positively affect the design and usage of the community building and its facilities The proposal is for the building to be utilised during week day evenings and weekends by the young people but the facility will be available for the community at large during the day time. It would be really appreciated if you were able to take a few minutes of your time to look at the following questions and give us your comments? In this way you can affect the community provision and use of this exciting opportunity. This evening our Cub Scouts had a great time having been give exclusive access to Chorley Library to work towards their Book Reader Activity Badge! A huge thank-you to Samantha Ratcliffe for preparing a fun-filled evening of games, songs and activities to really bring the library to life! Happily this year's St George's Parade was a dry one compared to previous years and once again ASJ's Beavers, Cubs and Scouts did a fantastic job providing this year's District Colour Party. The Chorley District flags were presented to the Rt. Honorable Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, who is Chorley's Member of Parliament, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons and the President of Chorley District Scouts and Cath Lee, Chorley Scouts' District Commissioner. Parade completed, the Scout Groups were dismissed to have fun on the bouncy castles and play with their friends on the park. A big thank you to all of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who made it to today's parade and to those of you who have taken part in events over the last year as the District's Colour Party Scout Group. Ben has been an ASJ Beaver, Cub and Scout and is now doing a superb job as a Young Leader in our Beaver Section. Last week he planned the Thursday night's session, as part of a wider Community Impact theme, with the Beavers making and decorating their own money boxes. These money boxes were then used to raise funds for Chorley's Food Bank, which Ben purchased and dropped off personally. The Foodbank volunteers were very impressed their generous contribution!
This project will also help the Beavers to achieve their Community Impact Badge and Ben who is working towards his Chief Scout's Platinum Badge. Keep up the good work! The Chorley LIFE Centre has been open for a year, yet ASJ Cubs were privileged to be the first Scout Group in Lancashire to visit this amazing facility! LIFE has been purpose built to inspire NHS careers and support health and well-being in people aged five years and upwards. The facility has been designed to include practical based teaching and also includes VR and AV technology. The trip included role plays for the Cubs on a Virtual Ward, working in a simulated Emergency Department and watching fascinating 3D movies in the cinema auditorium! We entered with Cubs who knew nothing about how the NHS works and we left with many aspiring doctors, nurses, pharmacists, radiographers and NHS support staff! A big thank you to Sarah (an Advanced Nurse Practitioner from Chorley ED) and Brittany one of the Centre's Tutors for running the sessions. |
