ASJ Scouts don't do anything by halves. Last month our Scouts produced, as part of their Digital Citizen Badge work, an online interview with ASJ Scout Group President and Founder Bill King and his amazing 75 years in Scouting. Within days of being published on the Group's Facebook page the video had been viewed over four and a half THOUSAND times and caught the attention of UCLan TV Reporter, Charlie Holt. Charlie kindly showed the Scouts how a real journalist works and produced this fantastic tribute news piece. Here is an extended version of the news story that was aired on UCLan TV last week... Watch out also for the story appearing in the Chorley Guardian any day now hopefully! :)

A big thank you to the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Hindu Temple in Preston for making the Scouts feel so welcome when we visited on Friday evening.
The Scouts really enjoyed the visit and we learnt loads of new things about Hinduism from our knowledgeable and entertaining host, Ambrish. We highly recommend other Scout Groups pay a visit! Chief Scout of the World - there’s no cooler title around! That’s what they called Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the worldwide Scout Movement. Baden-Powell was born Feb. 22, 1857, which is more than 150 years ago. Scouts worldwide — roughly 30 million in 161 countries — celebrate his birthday each year as Founder’s Day. You can celebrate too by wearing your uniform to school. Please speak to your school to check which day they are celebrating as it sometimes varies between schools but it's normally on or around the 22 February. Please see our our History of Scouting page for more information about Baden Powell and how the Scout Movement was founded. We were definitely Beavering away tonight, with the Beaver Scouts using their Top-Gear-style "Cool Wall" to rate the activities they'd like to focus on next term! #YouShape
Oliver moved on to Cub Scouts and we handed out the new Commissioners' Challenge Badges. The Beavers have earned this badge by signing up to complete challenges that will have a community impact over the next year. #CommissionersChallenge These badges should go on the left side of the uniform above the World Scout Membership Badge - please see attached photo. The ASJ 40 Year Anniversary occasional badge should now be removed and can be sewn onto camp blankets. The last two weeks we've had a great time working on our Digital Citizenship badge at Albany Academy's IT Suite. Our leaders gave us different challenges to work on: interviewing Cath Hargreaves, our new Scout District Commissioner, interviewing Bill King, a SCOUTING LEGEND and founder of our Scout Group, writing emails to scout groups in Croatia and Germany and putting together an online survey to send out to Scout parents. The following roles were allocated: Website Editors (responsible for planning how the content will be displayed on the website, drafting the written articles to accompany the videos and leading on the more challenging web-based tasks):
We learnt loads of new things including how to use PCs and software, how to take upload and edit photos and movies and holding a camera for a long time makes Josh's arm ache! Some of us also taught our leaders a thing or two, like telling them what Instagram is and some cool game websites. Thanks to Albany Academy for letting us use your IT Suite :) Here are some photos of the Digital Citizen evenings!... Interview with (local Scouting legend!)
