Camping at the ‘home of Scouting’ we couldn’t leave without exploring the Gilwell Heritage Trail. The Cubs found Baden Powell’s caravan, the Buffalo Lawn, the Pigsty – the first Scouts who arrived at Gilwell stayed in this shed. We found the famous Gilwell Oak, the statue of the Boy Scout, Camp Square with Big Mac, the 17th Century White House, the Chilean Statue of Boy with Puma and the Leopard Gates. They also found the Tuck Shop! Well worth a visit to Gilwell if you haven’t been before. The Cubs and leaders loved the woodland setting, the owls hooting during the night and learning more about Lord Baden Powell and the history of scouting.
